Ector County ISD Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for new Middle School in West Odessa

West Odessa/West Ector County/January 16, 2025-The Ector County Independent School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new middle school that will be located in the area of South Tripp Ave and Hutson in West Ector County in West Odessa. ECISD School Board Trustees and officials with Ector County participated in the special ceremony.

Several elementary schools in West Ector County Murray Fly, G.E. Buddy West Elementary, Cavazos, Edward K. Downing Elementary will be feeding into the new middle School

The new middle school is part of Bond 2023’s Proposition A and will be the first middle school built outside of Loop 338 and the first middle school built since 1981.

The new middle school will be approximately 194,794 square feet. The estimated cost of the school is about $120 million dollars, and will serve several thousand students.

West Odessa Residents Attend Town Hall Meeting

West Odessa-Ector County/July 22, 2023-Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett and Ector County Commissioner Precinct 1, Mike Gardner held a Town Hall meeting at the Ector County Sheriff’s Office annex located at Kellus –Turner Park. The purpose of the Town Hall is to gather information from residents of West Odessa regarding the future of their community.

The town hall event turned hostile, and a shouting match ensued, when the topic of West Odessa becoming its own city was brought up by Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett.

 Odessa Fire Rescue and EMS are part of an interlocal agreement between the City of Odessa and Ector County. OFR is responding to calls for service in West Odessa during the day and night. One option to help West Odessa residents is to create an emergency district and fund it by some type of county tax levied on the population of West Odessa.

Residents of West Odessa have issues with county roads not being properly maintained, water concerns with the Ector County Utility District, having to pay for trash pickup and other problems. Ector County Judge Dustin Fawcett plans to have more Town Hall meetings regularly.

Odessa, Texas/July 23, 2022-On Saturday, July 23rd, vendors and food trucks came out to the vendor’s market at 3017 Mercedes in West Odessa. Small home business owners sold a wide variety of items from clothing, Jewelry, custom printed cups, salsa, art and lots more.

In an effort to attract the public to West Odessa, residents will also have information available to them through the Vendor’s Market on the various venues in the area, that are available to rent for different events.

Many of the vendors at the Vendor’s Market are home startup businesses. These vendors create specialty items on a small scale and at a reasonable price.

Visitors to the Vendor’s Market stopped at the snow cone stand and enjoyed snow cones in a wide variety of flavors.

A wide selection of music was played at the event to set the mood, from Oldies, to Tejano. The Vendor’s Market featured local recording artist Korazon Salvaje.
