Odessa, Texas/July 14, 2024-The Salvation Army of Odessa held for the first time a Back-to-School event. Parents with their school age children signed up for a shoe voucher to be used beginning July 23rd.

Funding was provided by a local newspaper as well as from private donations. 500 school age kids benefited from this limited shoe program.

The Salvation Army of Midland also had the Back-to-School Shoe event on the same day and time.

TXU Energy Sponsors Salvation Army Cooling Station and an Energy Aid Check

Odessa, Texas/July 8, 2024-TXU recently announced that it is sponsoring a cooling station at the Salvation Army in Odessa and Midland. The summer months are extremely hot, and staying cool and safe is very important.

There is no charge to enter the cooling station. Water, entertainment and games are provided at both Salvation Army locations.

TXU Energy presented an Energy Aid check to the Salvation Army of Odessa and Midland to help TXU Energy customers in a crisis situation pay their electric bill.

United Way of Odessa’s Annual Day of Caring

Odessa, Texas/April 18, 2023-The United Way of Odessa Recently held their annual Day of Caring. This opportunity allows the United Way to perform a service project for three non-profit organizations that are funded by the United Way of Odessa. This year, Volunteers went to the Odessa Boys & Girls Club, The Permian Basin Mission Center and the Salvation Army.

The CEO of the Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Savanah Morales and her family volunteered to paint and garden at the Boys & Girls Club in central Odessa.

Several representatives of the United Way of Odessa, Mike Adkins, Communications Director at Ector County ISD and other volunteers helped with painting duties at the Permian Basin Mission Center.

Other volunteer teams arrived at the Salvation Army’s Wearhouse to organize and stack boxes with seasonal inventory that is sold throughout the year.

United Supermarkets Donates 1,000 Pairs of Socks to the Salvation Army Through Pears for Pairs

Odessa, Texas/March 3, 2023-On Wednesday, March 1st United Supermarkets donated one thousand pairs of socks to the Salvation Army, through the “Pears for Pairs” campaign. 

The United Family has helped make this donation in the Permian Basin for 4 years.

During the fall months in 2022 a portion of the proceeds from the purchase of Rainier Fruits pears and apples went towards the purchase of brand news socks for the homeless community.

Throughout the four years, guests have participated in helping raise funds for socks. The United Family and Rainier Fruit are able to donate a total of 5, 000 socks to charitable organizations across the state of Texas.
