First Week of School at Ector County ISD

Odessa, Texas/August 16, 2024-Ector County ISD started the first day of school this week. Pre-K through 12th grade began the school year meeting new teachers and students and reconnecting with their friends at the secondary level.

Gale Pond Alamo was a magnet school and a STEM learning school, this year Alamo Elementary is part of the NEW TECH Network, which will be a feeder school to NEW TECH at the secondary and high school level.

In 2023, the school district along with Gale Pond Alamo explored the advantages of the New Tech Netwok. Teachers prepared for project-based learning for the 2023-2025 school year.

Dr. Scott Muri, acknowledged that he would be retiring from ECISD and the formal announcement would be made during a special meeting of the Ector County ISD School Board.

Odessa Police Department’s Odessa Police Academy XXVII Firearms Training

Odessa, Texas/July 11, 2024-The Odessa Police Department held its Odessa Police Academy 27 firearms training at the OPD shooting range. Recruits along with a Fire Marshal learned the fundamentals of using various types of weapons from an automatic pistol, revolver and rifle. Recruits learned the technique of shooting performing a crawl, walk and run scenario.

Most of the recruits have fired a weapon prior to joining the Odessa Police Academy. Firearm instructors have to corrected bad habits that new recruits have learned over time.

Alejandro Alvarado, a OPA 27 Recruit was born and was being raised in El Paso, Texas. He came to Odessa at the age of 13 and is a graduate of Permian High School. His dream to be in law enforcement started at the age of 3.

OPA 27 Recruits are now heading towards the end of this academy and soon be preparing for graduation.

Mayor Javier Joven Campaign Kickoff at Dos Amigos

Odessa, Texas/July 19, 2024-Dos Amigos recently hosted Mayor Javier Joven’s campaign kick-off event, where It was estimated that approximately 200 supporters attended.

New Ector County Republican Party Leadership Swearing-In Ceremony and First Board Meeting

Odessa, Texas/July 12, 2024-The Ector County Republican Party recently held a swearing in ceremony of the new and re-elected Precinct Chairs and the newly elected Party Chair Donna Kelm. Supporters and guests along with State Representative, District 81 Brooks Landgraf, State Senator Kevin Sparks of the 31st District and John Beckmeyer, Odessa City Manager attended the special ceremony.

After the swearing in ceremony the new Ector County Republican Party leadership held their first board meeting to address issues regarding the By-Laws and vote on resolutions.

Cal Hendrick Announces His Candidacy for Mayor for the City of Odessa

Odessa, Texas/July 10, 2024-Cal Hendrick announced on Wednesday, July 10th to a full house of supporters at City Council Chambers his candidacy for Mayor for the City of Odessa. Mr. Hendrick gave a brief outline of issues affecting the city and its residents.

Many entrepreneurs and small business owners are finding it difficult to set up business in Odessa due to impact fees, permitting and over regulation. Cal Hendrick believes that Odessa has to be competitive and will look at city ordinances that hinder new business growth.

TXU Energy Sponsors Salvation Army Cooling Station and an Energy Aid Check

Odessa, Texas/July 8, 2024-TXU recently announced that it is sponsoring a cooling station at the Salvation Army in Odessa and Midland. The summer months are extremely hot, and staying cool and safe is very important.

There is no charge to enter the cooling station. Water, entertainment and games are provided at both Salvation Army locations.

TXU Energy presented an Energy Aid check to the Salvation Army of Odessa and Midland to help TXU Energy customers in a crisis situation pay their electric bill.
