6th Annual First Responder Breakfast Hosted By La Margarita Mexican Food Restaurant

Odessa, Texas/September 5, 2024-La Margarita Mexican Food Restaurant hosted the 6th Annual First Responder Breakfast. The Odessa Police Department, Ector County Sheriff’s Office, Odessa Fire Rescue and the Texas Department of Public Safety West Texas Region along with the Ector County DA’s Office enjoyed a Mexican Style breakfast that included: scrambled eggs, papas, sausage and bacon and spicy Chile Verde.

National Night Out 2024 Register Now!

Odessa Fire Rescue Respond to House Fire Other Homes Impacted

Odessa, Texas/August 24, 2024-On Saturday, August 24th, during the afternoon hours, Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a house fire in the 4200 Block of Wayside Ave., across from Permian High School on East 42nd Street. Residents near and around the burning home were able to knock down the front door in an effort to rescue anyone in the house. A medium size dog was pulled out of the burning home.

Neighbors to the right and left of the burning house suffered some fire damage to their homes and property.

No injuries were reported. A representative with the American Red Cross was at the scene to provide assistance to the victims of the house fire. Odessa Fire Rescue officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

NTSB and the FAA Investigating a Plane Crash in North Odessa Near Schlemeyer Airfield

Odessa, Texas/August 20, 2024-On Tuesday, August 20th at approximately 7am Odessa Fire Rescue responded to a major fire within the 6800 block Alderfer Ave. A small plane that took off from Schlemeyer Field was flying southbound at a low altitude over Yukon Rd., hit power lines on Yukon Rd., and also hitting and damaging a business also on Yukon Rd. The plane went down in the ally in the area of Alderfer Ave and Stevens Ave. Several trailer homes were fully engulfed. OFR rescued a female from a burning trailer home and was transported to a local hospital. 

The aircraft, a 1991 Cessna 550 piloted by Joseph Vincent Summa, a 48 years of age male of Bellaire, Texas. The passenger identified as Joleen Cavaretta Weatherly, a 49 years of age female of Orange, Texas were both pronounced deceased at the scene. The NTSB and the FAA were notified and have begun their investigation. More information as it becomes available.

Odessa Police Department’s Annual Back to School Block Party 2024

 

The Odessa Police Department and 1st Responders are having the annual Back to School Block Party this Saturday, August 3rd, at Sherwood Park from 10am to 2pm. Visitors to the event will enjoy food, drinks and games.

Major Fire Erupts at a Container Business, Investigation Ongoing

Odessa, Texas/July 24, 2024-On Tuesday, July 23rd, a major broke out at a container business located at 83rd and West Co. Rd. in northwest Odessa. Odessa Fire Rescue, West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department along with Goldsmith Fire Department responded to the major fire. A resident that lives close to the container business said that the fire may have started between 3am and 4am.

Mark Rodruguez said, that his son had seen container ejected in the air as the intense flames caused various pops and explosions. 

Segments of water hoses that resembled a yellow serpent winding across several neighborhood streets connected to a water hydrant located at the corner of 83rd and Perry Street. Drones were used by Odessa Fire Rescue to help fire fighter locate hot spots that kept igniting.

Due to the intensity of the container fire and the number of firetrucks and response teams needed to put out this fire, City of Odessa officials reached out to the Midland Fire Department for help in case of multiple emergencies in Odessa.
