Odessa, Texas/August 20,2022-Ector County Acceleration Academy has partnered with Ector County ISD to serve students who are about to finish their high school diploma. Acceleration Academy, the first in Texas started in February with a small group of 40 to 50 students from ECISD, and has grown to approximately 165 students.

During her senior year at Odessa HIgh School, Mariah Arriaga received devastating news, that she did not have enough credits to graduate. The stress of the bad news caused her to develop mental issues, anxiety and a lack of desire to attend school, even for a half a day.

Ector County ISD helped Mariah Arriaga transfer to the Ector County Acceleration Academy, where she was able to begin her journey to graduation, as well as receive medical treatment for her anxiety and other issues.

Students throughout the U.S. have fallen through the cracks for any number of reasons. The Acceleration Academy is a safety net for school districts to help students fulfill the requirements for graduation.

Mariah Arriaga’s goal is to be part of the medical community as a nurse, and plans to attend Odessa College.

Odessa, Texas/August 10, 2022-The first day of school began for Pre-K through 5th grade as-well as for 6th and 9th graders. Ector County ISD is phasing in grade levels at different days throughout the week to help students adjust to the new school environment.

Officers with Ector County ISD Police have been preparing for the new school year, making sure that students are safe.

New students at Bonham began the new school day learning core values to help them grow during their academic school year.

Students at ECISD will have the opportunity to engage with teachers from 16 different countries as part of the teaching staff. Ector County ISD started the new school year with pay increases for teacher as well as for hourly employees.

Odessa, Texas/June 2, 2022-Ector County ISD and Odessa Arts celebrated the 100 years of ECISD with the dedication of a new mural by Koda Witsken at the Ector County ISD Development Center at the corner of 10th and Golder. 

Officials with the City of Odessa and City Council as well as ECISD school board representatives and members of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon cutting ceremony.

The mural is described as a representation of ECISD’s past and present and of the district’s belief that “Our Students are Our Future.

The mural colors have a 25 to 30-year lifespan and is coated to protect the mural from extreme West Texas weather and Graffiti.

Odessa, Texas/April 13, 2022-The Young Professionals of Odessa hosted the school bond PAC presentation at the Complex Community Credit Union Training Center. Odessa residents were invited to the luncheon to hear Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at Ector County ISD and Loraine Perryman present facts on the school bond proposal and upcoming school bond election in May 2022.

Odessa, Texas/February 28, 2022-Travis Elementary held a special Black History Month presentation for the 4th grade classes. Students learned of historical African-American icons from decade past. Representatives from the Odessa community were invited to participate at Travis Elementary for the final days of Black History Month.

Former school administrator, Sheila Stevenson encouraged students to achieve goals in academics and in personal lives, she also read a poem that was translated in a dance performance by a student attending U.T.P.B.
