Odessa, Texas/February 12, 2023-Ector County ISD’s Zavala Elementary has an educational choice program called Careers and Communities, where students learn about different career paths. A career path that was discussed was in the field of nutrition.

Zavala Elementary has selected two areas on campus to create the garden. The issue is the amount of sunlight in these two shaded locations.

The goal is to educate students on planting a garden.  

Potatos, carrots, squash, tomatos herbs and other vegetables are being considered for the garden.

Keep Odessa Beautiful has been working on this project with Zavala Elementary for two years. The goal is to educate children on conservation and repurposing materials in the creation of the garden.

Cavazos Elementary is the next school Keep Odessa Beautiful and the Master Gardeners will be partnering up with in the beautification of the campus with a garden.

Texas Tech University Health Science Center Permian Basin Hosts Healthcare Career Fair

Odessa, Texas/January 27, 2023-Texas Tech University Health Science Center hosted around 40 Ector County ISD students at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center Permian Basin Healthcare Career Fair. The goal of the fair is to inspire, encourage and inform students about careers in healthcare from nursing to being a physician.

Multiple Texas Tech University Health Science Center faculty, medical students and resident physicians volunteered their time providing information and demonstration to the ECISD students.

The local College and University benefit from large contributions to programs for students related to oil and gas from major oil companies and industry non-profit organizations in the Odessa-Midland area. Very small financial contributions are donated to the medical field and healthcare programs.

Ector County ISD has programs available at the secondary level for students interested in a career path in healthcare.

Odessa Chamber of Commerce Hosts Special Event for ECISD Teachers and Employees

Odessa, Texas/December 20, 2022-The Odessa Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a luncheon for Ector County ISD Teachers and staff at Barn B at the Ector County Coliseum. The Chamber provided this special event to thank teachers for educating the children of Odessa and Ector County.

H.E.B. the title sponsor and other businesses and organizations came together to help fund this special event. ECISD teachers, staff and employees were treated to tasty Bar-B-Que provided by the World-Famous Chuck Wagon Gang.

Odessa, Texas/December 10, 2022-The YMCA Learning Center in Odessa held its annual Breakfast with the Grinch fundraising event. The YMCA Learning Center has a Pre-K program, and is in partnership with Ector County ISD, focusing on early childhood and kindergarten readiness.

Families enjoyed a breakfast buffet that included pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and much more. MCM Elegant hosted the fundraising event that featured beautiful Christmas decorations.

The YMCA Learning Center is responsible for administration staff and teachers. The learning Center operates independently of ECISD.

Odessa, Texas/December 3, 2022-The Odessa Family YMCA will be hosting “Breakfast with the Grinch” at the MCM Elegante Hotel on Saturday, December 10th. This fun-family breakfast event starts at 9am and ends at 12 noon.

Odessa YMCA Learning Center in partnership with Ector County ISD is having this Christmas Season fundraising event to help the Pre-K school with much needed supplies and to expand and grow the facility.

All funds raised from “Breakfast with the Grinch” benefit the YMCA Learning Center. This fun-family event is scheduled for Saturday, December 10th from 9am to 12noon at the MCM Elegante Hotel. Tickets are $25 dollars per-person.

Odessa, Texas/November 20, 2022-Ireland Elementary held its 1st Annual Cereal Box Challenge benefiting the West Texas Food Bank. Staff and students brought in unopened boxes of cereal to help feed families in the counties that the West Texas Food Bank serves.
