Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Celebrating 40th Anniversary

Odessa, Texas/October 11, 2024-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin celebrated their 40th Anniversary and the 34th Annual Ebony Bar Awards. Members of the Black Chamber along with Odessa College, UTPB, The Odessa Chamber of Commerce, local businesses and other institutions joined the special celebration.

This year the Ebony Bar Awards were presented to black medical professionals that have been trailblazers in our community and who have made a major impact keeping residents of Odessa and Ector County healthy.

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin introduced guest speaker Dr. Jacobi Cleaver, OD, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Chief Program Officer-Black Eyecare Perspective, gave a lighthearted presentation on the importance of eyecare.

Black Chamber of the Permian Basin 1st Annual Scholarship Bowling Tournament

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held their 1st Annual Scholarship Bowling Tournament at Diamond Lanes in Odessa.

Twenty teams that included Medical Center Hospital, Audio Acoustics, Walker Photography, ConocoPhillips and the Odessa Chamber of Commerce participated in the event. The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin hopes to raise thousands of dollars from the bowling event.

The yearly Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Golf Tournament for scholarships normally scheduled during the month of July, maybe held sometime in the month of October.

Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin/33rd Annual Ebony Bar Awards

Odessa, Texas/November 13, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held their 33rd Annual Ebony Bar Awards at the MCM Grande Fundome in Odessa, Texas. Members of the BCCPB, invited guests, representatives from Odessa College, UT Permian Basin and supporting businesses attended the event. The Black Chamber Commerce featured a display of photographs by Steve Goff, a retired professor of Photography at Odessa College and the specialty artwork created by Brandon Norman.

This year’s Ebony Bar Awards celebrated educators who served students at Blackshear when it was a High School and as a Jr. High and Ector High School. Dr. James J. Bolton, Department Chair and Professor of PreHealth at Odessa College was the featured speaker.

Renee Earls, CEO and President of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce was honored with the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin President’s Award for her continued support of Black Chamber of Commerce businesses and her collaborative efforts with the BCCPB and the Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in the Get Out The Vote campagin.

14th Annual Robert E Williams Golf Tournament Hosted by the Black Chamber of Commerce Permian Basin

Odessa, Texas/July 16, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held its 14th annual Robert E. Williams Golf Tournament at the Sunset Golf Course. The purpose of the golf tournament is to raise funds to provide scholarships to qualified High School Seniors graduating in 2024.

This year, the Robert E. Williams Golf Tournament had 22 teams of 4 players, that included business owners, City of Odessa representatives, Ector County Commissioner, Pct. 2 Greg Simmons and other VIP’S. Some of the funds raised come from sponsorships and banner sponsors.

Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Host Townhall Meeting

Odessa, Texas/April 26, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin held a Town Hall meeting at the Woodson Boys and Girls Club in south Odessa. 

Russell Tippin, CEO of Medical Center Health System, Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at Ector County ISD, Dustin Fawcett, Ector County Judge, and a representative from the office of Dr. Gregory Williams, President of Odessa College gave an update on status of their respective institutions.

Residents of the City of Odessa, District 1 voiced their concerns to Dr. Scott Muri, Superintendent of Schools at ECISD on the current educational system and the way the State of Texas, in the point of view of the residents of District 1 is wanting to eliminating Black history.

The Odessa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plan to collaborate with the Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin to bring more townhall meetings to District 1 in south Odessa, now that candidates for School Board and Hospital Board have begun their campaigns.

Odessa City Councilman, Mark Matta was on the schedule to speak, but due to the regularly scheduled meeting of the Odessa City Council he was not able to attend.

The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin Holds 2nd Annual Community Clean-Up

Odessa, Texas/April 17, 2023-The Black Chamber of Commerce of the Permian Basin along with Keep Odessa Beautiful held their 2nd Annual Community Clean-Up. Representatives and members of the BCCPB gathered at the Woodson Boys and Girls Club to begin the clean-up project.
