UT Permian Basin Veterans Day Celebrations & Recognition

Odessa, Texas/November 10, 2024-The University of Texas of the Permian held the annual Veterans Day Celebration and Recognition. The event featured the posting of the colors by Odessa Fire Rescue, The Star Spangled Banner sung by Tabitha Jones.

The UT Permian Band performed the Armed Forces Medley: THE CAISSONS GO ROLLING ALONG, THE MARINE CORPS HYMN, ANCHORS AWAY, THE U.S. AIRFORCE, and SEMPER PARATUS.

Odessa City Council Has a New Mayor, District 1 and New City Councilman At Large Steve Thompson is Re-elected

Odessa, Texas/November 7, 2024-Residents of Odessa wanted change and they got it with the election of the new incoming Mayor, Cal Hendrics, Craig Stoker, the new At-Large and Eddie Mitchell, who will be representing City of Odessa, District 1. Incumbent Steve Thompson was re-elected to Odessa City Council District 2 defeating Nayely Urias. Cal Hendricks and the new council will focus on the needs of Odessa.

Craig Stoker will soon be sworn-in as Odessa City Councilman, At-Large and on day one will be assessing the issues that the previous City Council administration may have inflicted on the city of Odessa.

Eddie Mitchell defeated Councilman, District 1 Mark Matta. Mitchell goal is to revitalized southside Odessa by increasing homebuilding, high-end eateries and grocery stores.

Ronnie Lewis, Ector County Republican Party, Precinct Chair 203 and a staunch critic of the current Odessa City Council, is happy that the newly elected City Council Members will now focus on the needs of the City.

Donna Kelm, Ector County Republican Chair is excited and hopeful for the new city leadership. 

Cal Hendricks, Craig Stoker, Eddie Mitchell and Steve Thompson will be sworn-in on November 21st. The first meeting with the new council is on November 26th.

Odessa, Texas/November 3, 2024-The Odessa Family YMCA held a plaque dedication ceremony for the new flag pole that was constructed in September.

Funds for the flag pole were raised over a period of time by veteran and YMCA member John Curry.

La Fiesta Bakery Celebrates 60 Years Serving Pan Dulce to the Residents of Southside Odessa

Odessa, Texas/November 3, 2024-La Fiesta Bakery held its 60th anniversary of serving pan dulce and other delights to residents of southside Odessa. Large number of visitors came out to the special day and stood in line for a goodie bag of pan dulce and making take-home orders for the sweet bread.

La Fiesta Bakery officially began serving the Mexican-American residents of the barrio sometime in 1964.

Odessa Fire Rescue and the Odessa Police Department’s Annual Trunk or Treat Event

Odessa, Texas/November 1, 2024-Odessa Fire Rescue and the Odessa Police Department along with other first responders, held their annual Trunk or Treat event. Moms and Dads brough their Pre-K Children brought their children to the Central Fire Station and Administration Building for the free family event.

Children from Pre-K and daycare locations from across the city of Odessa enjoyed seeing McGruff the Crime Dog, the Odessa Fire Rescue Mascot, lots of candy and other goodies.

Groundbreaking Ceremony at the New IDEA LOPEZ Public School

Odessa, Texas/October 31, 2024-The IDEA School system held a ground breaking ceremony at 3401 West 5th in Odessa honoring the Lopez family and the naming of the school IDEA LOPEZ.

IDEA LOPEZ is scheduled to launch in the fall of 2025 with Kinder, First and Second grade as well as Sixth grade with an estimated 400 students and scaling up over next six years.
