Odessa, Texas/September 2, 2024-On Thursday, August 29th, a special dedication ceremony of the Bright Star Memborial was held at the UTPB Sports Fields on the UT Permian Basin Campus in honor of the August 31st, 2019 shooting victims.

Earlier in the week, The Odessa Parks and Recreation Department placed the Yellow Flags with the names of the victims of the August 31st 2019 shooting and the Odessa Strong banner at Memorial Gardens.

Over 100 artists from across the United States applied for the Bright Star Memorial commission. A select committee that included City of Odessa staff, Odessa Arts, community members, surviving victims and victim’s families selected artist Jim Sanborn.
